WRONG: Hairlessness is the result of a natural genetic mutation, which can be found in cats and dogs. This allowed man to make a selection, with for instance the Peruvian Hairless Dog, the Chinese Crested Dog, or the Sphynx. In the Sphynx, the gene is recessive, which means that the two allenes must be carriers of the “naked” gene. On the other hand, in the Mexican Hairless Dog, the gene is dominant: the dog will be naked as long as one of the two allenes is “naked”.
