Paris Dog Show 2006 : Who will succeed to Touch of Class du Moulin de Mac Gregor ?

Emmanuel Pacitto - Pictures C. Hermeline & F. Haymann

As usual in France, the two most represented groups will be the 2nd and 9th groups, with respectively 808 and 735 dogs entered. The group with the less dogs entered is the 4th group, but one has to remember that this group is made up of only one breed, the Dachshunds. Let’s note that for once the 5th group will not be the “real” group the less represented. Indeed, with 204 dogs entered, it is far ahead the 10th group (173 dogs), the 7th group (124 dogs) and the 6th group, with only 97 dogs entered from 8 breeds.

On the breeds’ side

Paris Dog Show 2006 : Who will succeed to Touch of Class du Moulin de Mac Gregor ?There will be no or little surprise concerning the most represented breeds for this edition of the Paris Dog Show. In the 1st group, the Australian Shepherds are once more the most represented breed, with 71 dogs entered, in front of the Berger de Beauce and the now unavoidable Bergers Blancs Suisses (51), which could one day become the most represented breed of the 1st group in France. With 76 dogs entered, the Rottweilers easily dominate the 2nd group, in front of the Dobermanns, the Great Danes and the fashionable mastiffs such as the Dogo Argentinos and the Cane Corsos. With 129 dogs entered, the American Staffordhire Terriers confirm the craze of dog fanciers for the mastiff breeds, even if the Am Staff are in the Terrier Group. This craze is confirmed by the two other most represented breeds of the group, the Bull Terriers (61 standards and 9 miniatures) and the Staffordshire Bull Terriers (46). Otherwise, the only other Terrier breeds to reach the 20 entries are the Yorskhire, the West Highland and the Cairn Terriers. In the 5th group, the Akitas and the German Spitz (all sizes and colours) are also the only breeds to reach 20 entries.

Paris Dog Show 2006 : Who will succeed to Touch of Class du Moulin de Mac Gregor ? The Basset Hounds represent more than one third of the dogs entered in the 6th group, while in the 7th group the Weimaraners are the only breed to reach the 20 entries. The Golden (98) and Labrador (85) retrievers easily dominate the 8th group. The undisputed champion of the show will be the Cavalier King Charles, with no less than 175 dogs entered in the four different colours. With 80 dogs entered, the French bulldogs proves it’s still one of the most fashionable French breeds. On the sight hounds’ side, there will be an exceptional 50 Borzois, thanks to a Specialty show organised by the dynamic breed club. It will be far in front of the Whippets (33) and the Afghan Hounds (19).

You will find below further useful information on the show.
