During the general assembly of the FCI for the World Dog Show in Argentina, the decision was made to organise the 2009 and 2010 FCI World Dog Shows in Slovakia and in Denmark.
For the year 2009, three countries were in competition, France, Austria and Slovakia. As Austria had just organised the European Dog Show in Tulln, the two most serious candidates were France and Slovakia, which had organised a brilliant European Dog Show in Bratislava in 2003. The members of the FCI committee probably remembered this show, as they finally chose Slovakia for the World Dog Show 2009. So Stefan Stefic, the President of the Slovenska Kynologica Jednota ( Slovakian Kennel Club) left Buenos Aires with a World Dog Show in his pocket. This will be a first time in the country. Stefan Stefic is an international judge, and he is a specialist of the Group 10, the Sighthounds. He and his team will now have to confirm the excellent impression all the exhibitors and spectators had had during the European Dog Show in 2003, but we shouldn’t worry about it, we’re sure they’ll do a wonderful job.
5 countries were in competition for the 2010 edition of the World Dog Show: Italy (which organised the World Dog Show in Milan in 2000), Chile, Denmark, Finland (whose World Dog Show in 1998 is still present in everybody’s mind) and Slovakia. Slovakia was awarded the 2009 World Dog Show, and after a first vote, only three candidates remained: Chile, Finland and Denmark. The World Dog Show was awarded to the latter country. Jorgen Hindse Madden, who’s been the president of the Danish Kennel Club since 1977, has every reason to be happy, as his country has already organised two World Dog Show since 1974; the first time was in 1977, in Herning (3,883 dogs entered) and the second time was in 1989 in Copenhagen (9,473 dogs entered). Let’s note that the 1997 edition of the European Dog Show had also taken place in Copenhagen.
