The World Dog Show took place in Amsterdam from July 4 to 7, 2002. With a much expected winner, very successful Russian and Scandinavian exhibitors, and also the canine world press really disappointed by the way they could do their jobs, this World Dog Show was surprising in more than one way.
The winner of this show, in which 14.520 dogs from 52 different countries, were entered – among which 3.270 champions – is no other than the recent winner of the CRUFTS Dog Show, the Standard White Poodle Ch Topscore Contradiction. Read our report on CRUFTS 2002. This “Show Dog”, a possible winner on every continent, was much expected by those who closely follow the dog shows circuit. However, this victory must not eclipse the beautiful second place of the Puli, which also comes from Scandinavia. An unexpected Reserve BIS, which offered itself the pleasure to beat many stars.
When you look closely at the results, this event was full of surprise. Dutch exhibitors were very often awarded. Personally, I’ve rarely seen so many discontent people around the rings, but the largest majority of the exhibitors always kept their fair play.
With almost 1.000 dogs entered, France left with very few titles, and less than 5 Best Of Breeds, notably with the Berger de Beauce and the Shar Pei, when we were used to much more than that. But this was not specific to France: Germany – the second number of entries – Belgium, Italy, Spain, were also less fortunate than in Porto, Budapest, or Brussels . Let’s hope that in Dortmund, the VDH will not forget the role of the specialised press… and will not also simply keep away from the rings the dogs with cropped dogs or ears, as the dog fancy may lose a lot from this measure!Picture of the main ring.
You will find below the main winners from this World Show organised in the Netherlands. We classed them by Breed Groups. We realised a slide show for each group, so as not to limit ourselves only to the winners.
