What everybody thought impossible has just happened ! Swiss musher martin Buser has just won the Iditarod in less than 9 days, more precisely in 8 days, 22 hours and 46 seconds.
If there was no doubt left about Buser’s victory due to the weather conditions, and while people indeed felt that the race record was about to explode, it was however very hard to think that the mythical barrier of the 9 days might be overtaken one day. It has been done, and now it is quit certain that this record might last for many years to come. One must also note Raimy Brooks’s performance, as he has also beaten the previous record, only 2 hours and 3 minutes behind Buser.
Then came John Baker, Jon Little, Vern Halter, Jeff King, Ramey Smyth and Charlie Boulding. The other participants, among whom are our favourite, DeeDee Jonrowe, are still on the track. The latter only has now 6 dogs left, and the last stage of the race has been very difficult for her. A tribute was paid to Martin Buser’s dogs under the famous wooden arch, which materialises the finish line in Nome, and all the more so since martin finished with his ten dogs, all in perfect shape!
