Bart is a Black Russian Terrier. With its 73cm at the withers and its 58 kilos, he’s no puny little thing. But above all, it has an impressive head, which is more than 30cm long, and it shows all the qualities that the breed lovers want in a dog.
Svetlana Zolotovna is very famous among the Black Russian Terriers lovers. Her passion started in 1981. But do not be mistaken, if you were present last year at the French National Championship, and saw another Black Russian terrier on the final ring, it was that of another Svetlana’s, Svetlana Dervyn, a Russian living in France, who showed Marfa Krassa, one of Bart Barby S Bronich’s daughter. Unfortunately, the group judge hardly looked at it despite the quality of the dog and the excellent handling.
With the affix Zolotov Grad – meaning golden city in Russian – Svetlana breeds the one dog called the “Russian pearl”. For a little reminder, the Black Russian terrier was a breed created by the Muscovite military men, by crossing various breeds such as the Rottweiler, the Giant Schnauzer and the Airedale Terrier. Today’s breeding lines are still descended from this military-orientated basis. It is truly a recent breed, recognised in 1981 by the Russian Dog Federation, the RKF. Three years later, the Black Russian Terrier entered the FCI’s breed nomenclature.
Strangely enough, although the Black Russain Terrier is the largest of all the terriers, it is mostly a guard dog in the majority of the countries where it is bred. While everywhere in the world it belongs to the second group along with the Boxers or the Cane Corsos, in France it belongs to the third group. For the terrier lovers, it is an absurdity, while the group II breeders think that its name doesn’t match its abilities. It is very likely that this will change shortly, and that the French central Canine Society makes things clearer by putting the breed in its real group. For Svetlana, Bart is the true mix of all the qualities required by the breed specialists: powerful yet elegant, large, with a strong bone structure, it is dysplasia-free, intelligent, and wary of the strangers. Besides, it can adapt to all the climates and its built is perfectly balanced.
Bart is one of the most famous dogs in its breed. Not only is Bart famous thanks to its list of achievements, which takes it to the top 10 of the most titled dogs. But above all it is an extraordinary stud. After countless victories in the rings, its owners turned it to reproduction, where the quality of its descendents also proves, if needed, the quality of its ancestors. Bart not only shows a good type quality, but it also has the required temperament for a protection dog. It possesses the CTC and the GSS-1 (a super brevet for defence dogs.) One of its daughters, Lagoda from Russkoy Dynastii distinguished itself throughout the world, especially during the 2000 Poznan’s European show, 98 Helsinki and 2000 Milan’s World Shows. Bart’s grand-children also distinguish themselves in the exhibition rings: Velizar’s Zelotovo Grada (multi-champion KRIS, World Champion 1999/2000 x Aniwa, Bart’s Daughter.) This young male has an impressive genealogy, by combining in first and second generation two tenors from the Russian breeding, Kris and Bart. Kris is currently the most titled dog of its breed, with no less than 28 CACIBs, 27 best of breeds, 14 best of groups and 5 BIS!
In france, Bart’s blood can be found in many kennels, and that with Kris’s blood too, its descendents will keep on dominating the rings, and above all to satisfy their owners.
