CANADA: Six newly recognised breeds by the CKC
CKC presse release - Picture C. Hermeline/Doxicat

Breeds movement in the process of CKC registrations…

Following approval from the Minister of Agriculture, and as a result of compliance with Section 20, subsections (2) and (3) of the Animal Pedigree Act and Sections 25.3 and 36.14 of The Canadian Kennel Club By-laws and Chapter IV. Sections A of the CKC Policy and Procedures Manual, the following breeds are to be added to Section 25.1 of The Canadian Kennel Club By-laws:

1) American Eskimo Dog

2) Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog

3) Barbet

4) Greater Swiss Mountain Dog

5) Spinone Italiano

6) Toy Fox Terrier

As of March 1, 2006, the breeds can be recognized for registration purposes in accordance with the CKC policies governing recognition. Effective June 1, 2006, the breeds will also be eligible to compete in CKC approved events.

The breeds have been placed in the following groups:

1 American Eskimo Dog (Toy): (5) Toys

2 American Eskimo Dog (Miniature): (6) Non-Sporting

3 American Eskimo Dog (Standard) : (6) Non-Sporting

4 Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog : (7) Herding

5 Barbet: (1) Sporting Dogs

6 Greater Swiss Mountain Dog : (3) Working Dogs

7. Spinone Italiano : (1) Sporting Dogs

8. Toy Fox Terrier : (5) Toys

The Board of Directors has agreed that the FCI standards be sustained as the official standard for the breeds. Given that these specific breeds have been on our Miscellaneous Class List for a number of years, the graduated fee for registration will not apply until March 1, 2007.
