Portrait Of A Golden Boxer: Perico, A Star Is Born
Text Frank Haymann - Pictures RR

This new column will pay tribute to those dogs, which win fame on the international rings. Beyond their performances and victories, those dogs have "extras", which allow them to make the difference. Let us begin with Perico, a young Boxer with a more than promising career.

Perico du Val d'Europe is a young, bringed Boxer, which will celebrate its two years next August. The son of an Italian female and of today's best German reproducer, Perico became in a 12 month-lapse a star in the world of Europeans Boxer fans. And despite its young age, it already boasts the most prestigious titles and more than 100 descendants. After Perry, Athos, and other tenors from the French breeding, this dog is definitely THE Boxer from the new millennium.

Today's most famous breeders will all agree on the fact that Boxers are among the most difficult dogs to breed. All the more so when one tries to breed a champion above the lot. In the last 20 years, a few French stars have compelled recognition in Europe in the circuit: Perry du Chemin Fleuri, born in 1979 at Robert Genre's, Athos de l'Enfer Vert, born in 1995 at Mrs Merchat's, without forgetting star M' De Sullieu, born in 1996, a bringed female, which left its mark on all the international meetings of the breed.

Image 47652 If all the outstanding boxers from contemporary breeding were mostly German, a few Italian dogs had also donned the clothes of international stars. But then, they had forgotten to take into account the tenacity of young breeder from the Parisian region, François Médioni. After studying boxers in books, then turning theory into practice by starting breeding, François found out the perfect mix: he crossed a young bitch bought in Italy with the best German reproducer. Young Perico stayed at François' until it was two months old, then he went to its new house at Noëlle Desurmont's, the woman who had bred famous M' De Sullieu. By the way, note that this bitch was from the 9th generation to bear the name of this affix.
Perico's arrival would change al the ways in Noëlle's home. She tells us of this arrival

"The most beautiful present came in on October 1999, I mean Perico du Val d'Europe. François has given me all I had ever dreamt of with Perico, a dog that looked like M' (reference to M' de Sullieu, the most titled French Boxer in the last 10 years.) It ahs the same origins, and what's more, it has dark eyes and gives me full satisfaction..."
But the one who still follows day after the day the exploits of the new star is none else than François Médioni. However, let's not forget all the other dogs from the Val d'Europe, which are also present on the rings. François always wanted to reach the top, by selecting the participations throughout Europe according to the concurrence and the judges' reputation.

Image 47653 François tells us the story of this prodigy, which the Germans will use once its descendants are old enough to take part to their first exhibitions.
"It all started like this: After I had acquired the Italian female Olinda Dei cavalieri Del Monferrato, born Sonia Lupano, I decided to mate her with a top stud. While carefully checking French breeder Noëlle Desurmont's work in the same time, who "works" with the same lines. Let us point out immediately that Olinda has a long proved ascendancy. Her parents are the ones who gave birth to Italian reproducer Caos and his sister Chiara. Hence my decision to choose a gifted reproducer, fawn male Ibsen Von Der Sembacher Flur. This multi-champion born in Germany is the double grandson of stud Athos de l'Enfer Vert, the most prolific and outstanding dogs the other side of the Rhine. On August 15, 1999, Olinda gave birth to a beautiful litter. Very quickly, I spotted as my favourite a small, fringed male, which I called Perico. A tribute to its famous grandfather, perry du Chemin Fleury, a bringed male, which had carried high the colours of French breeding on the international stage. At the beginning of September, I left the Ile de France region with Noëlle Desurmont for the National, which took place in Vienna, at the Austrian Boxer Club. I talked a lot with Noëlle during this weekend. And during our conversations, I talked about my litter (Ibsen and Olinda). Noëlle decided to come and see my puppies at home. She was very excited about coming to Paris, as Caos sur In'Edith de Sullieu had a crossing similar to that of Perico's genitors. And as soon as he saw my little phenomenon at the Val d'Europe, she said:
"I want it!"
As I could not keep Perico at home for lack of space, I quickly decided to let her have it, under the condition to be co-owner and to share all of its exploits. Today, Perico is quadruple Junior Champion (Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Bundesjudgendsieger 2000), and starts its adult career at full speed. In two appearances, it was awarded the CACIB and the best of breed at Montpellier International Exhibition, and more recently, he was awarded Klubsieger and Best Male in a German regional Exhibition!"
Since that time, Perico went to Belgium at a skilled and famous breeder and handler's, Ingmar Sioenpoppe (Van Sapho's Hoeve.) This prestigious handler (IPO, SchH) should take care of Perico and help it through working trials. This handler has many stars in his breeding coming from the best Italian and French selections.
In the last weeks, famous persons from European breeding came to use Perico's services. And before the end of the year, little Pericos will make their debut in the rings. A star is born, and many others will shine very quickly.
