Rescue Dog is a new association, whose aim is to help abandoned Great Danes to find a family. After two months, they have already found a new home for about ten dogs.
Horace, bandy, Phyllis, Oslo, Oracle are Great Danes, which did have the luck to be at the right place. Sylvie Maury, one of the founder members of the association explains: "We are a new association, whose aim is to find new families for abandoned or mistreated Great Danes, and sometimes to take them away from hell, like it happened with Major! We started in May 2001, we have ten Great Danes waiting to be adopted, and we are expecting two more. We have had seven dogs adopted so far, among which was Louis, a 6 year old male, which thus escaped euthanasia.
Major lived a real nightmare: it was raised in a concrete, 5 square meters yard, it was under-fed, and it suffered from several wounds at the limbs. Last May, Major left this Hell thanks to the efforts of rescue Dog. But, according to Sylvie, there are many cases like Major all over France. "It all rests on the shoulders of the voluntary helpers. Our first task is to contact the shelters in every French region, to visit them and to explain them our work, which consists in finding new homes for those Great Danes, which were bought or adopted without any consideration..."Thanks to these helpers, the second phase could become a reality: not to leave the Great Danes in the shelters thanks to the adopting families ready to take them.
