Australian Minister of Justice and Customs Chris Ellison, has just banned the trade and use of cat and dog fur and skin.
After months of lobbying, animal rights groups have won the battle in Australia. From now on, imports and exports of cat and dog fur are prohibited. Goods of concern most likely to be made of dog or cat fur allegedly include clothing and footwear, gloves, hats and toys, other accessories and fur-covered animal figurines, and so on. The next goal of the Humane Society International is to bring the European Commission to adopt the same legal measures.
