This set of ganglia, or lymph nodes, is located along the pathway of lymph vessels in the lymphocenters. Lymph (a clear fluid, the most abundant extracellular liquid) circulates through this system. The lymphatic system defends the organism from attack by foreign bodies and also includes the central lymph organs (thymus and bone marrow). The thymus is a transitional organ that regresses in adults. The spleen and tonsils are peripheral lymph organs.
