This is a purulent inflammation of the bronchioles and the adjacent pulmonary alveoli. Toxins are produced, which destroys the bronchioles, preventing them from draining properly.
- Primary symptoms: labored breathing with increased respiratory frequency: labial breathing (the flews raise when the dog exhales); short bouts of painful, fitful coughing; fever with irregular hyperthermia and noticeable exhaustion; possible cardiac disease.
- Steps to take: the general state of the dog in this condition requires a visit to the veterinarian. It is best to avoid dry climates and sudden temperature changes, which aggravate respiratory difficulties. Furthermore, ration the dog's food. Increase the number of meals per day but decrease the quantity. This will help improve the general health of the dog. If the dog spends a lot of time lying down, turn him over from time to time to prevent liquids from stagnating in the same side of the lungs.
Occurs when the larynx lumen becomes constricted and causes respiratory difficulty and loud breathing. The intensity of the symptoms depends on whether one side of the larynx is paralyzed (tied-up guard dog, surgery) or both sides (sheepdogs, bull terriers, older brachycephalic breeds, neurological origins).
- Steps to take: only surgery will provide results in certain cases.
