An Oriental In A Silky Suit
Text by Franck Haymann, pictures Hermeline/Aniwa

Elena Suarez Thouvenin is a passionate cat fancier. She breeds many breeds, among which the Oriental, the subject of this article and picture slide show.

Elena Thouvenin bought her first Oriental queen in 1985. This was Ariane, a blue tabby, and everything began with her. Elena created her cattery’s name, “Sulena de Tengri’Nor” in 1987, when her first litter was born. In 1990, Elena decided to become specialised in the Cinnamon and Fawn colours.

Let’s note that the Short Haired Oriental is a variety of the Siamese. The first cats were chocolate, with beautiful green eyes (Havana Brown). Quickly, the range of colours evolved and became larger, due to crosses. Nowadays, plain or multicolour, the Oriental comes in a large range of colours, without forgetting the tabby – ticked, mackerel, spotted, blotched or classic.

A Doggy cat

Image 86523 With its cuneiform head, set in a long triangle, and ended by a pointed muzzle, the Oriental leaves no one indifferent. Its main morphological characteristics are the following: long and open ears, almond-shaped eyes, thin, long and rather narrow body, long legs, small, oval feet, and a long tail.
The Oriental is a very attaching cat, one could even say it’s a glue stick. It loves the contact with its family. It’s very talkative, but it’s to talk the more often possible with its owners. “it’s a doggy cat,” concludes Elena.
