Today we shall visit together the Zooparc de Beauval, located in Saint Aignan, between Blois and Tours, in the middle of the Loire Châteaux. Beauval, which is the second most visited park in France, rightly deserves its international status.
The African savannah constitutes the first attraction of the park: giraffes, gnus, springboks, cobs, zebras... are galloping on more than three hectares, and they are separated from you by a mere ditch, which allow you to see them very closely.
At the corner of a small wood on a hill, you'll discover the house of the giraffes, a 13 metres high building! The giraffes, which are among the endangered species, are part of the European Programs for the Endangered Species, implemented in the European zoological parks for the preservation and reproduction of those species.
There are many rare species at Beauval, such as the white rhinos and the white lions. These rhinos are actually grey, and not white: the Afrikaners had called them "Weit rhinoceroses", or large-mouthed rhinos; the English understood "white rhinoceroses", and this name remained. As for the whiter lions, they are shown for the first time to the visitors. But there are only 20 in the world. They are not albinos, but individuals whose very pale cream coat displays a melanin deficiency.
From the small marmoset weighing less than 100 grams, to the impressive gorilla with its 250 kilos, no les than 120 species of apes are waiting for you at Beauval. You'll also get the opportunity to discover the Florida sirens. They are actually the West Indian manatees, magnificent, peaceful and strange water mammals, which can weigh near to a ton. This is a unique opportunity for you to see them in France. You'll also have the opportunity to see the largest turtles in the world, which are never in a hurry. You'll also see the sea lions, which will delight you in their huge pools with their jumps, glides and other tricks.Three glasshouses shelter more than 600 species of exotic birds with delightful colours. They have more than 2000 square metres to fly freely among the visitors. And don't miss the incredible show with the raptors, buzzards, vultures and other royal eagles.
