Calluses are areas of hyperkeratosis (round or oval) that occur on the skin around the pressure points.
- Symptoms: areas of chapped, gray, hairless skin, especially on the elbow and the point of the hocks. Occurs in dachshunds, doberman pinschers and pointers. They also occur in the sternal region. Calluses primarily affect large breeds that lay unprotected on hard surfaces.
- Treatment: surgery is required when the lesions are particularly large or infected.
