This is a chronic infection, which is a specific form of melanodermatitis that causes hyperpigmentation, thickening and lichenification of the skin and is often accompanied by alopecia in the axillary region, paws, flanks and chest. It is especially common in the Dachshund.
- Symptoms: at 6 months, brown spots begin to appear under both armpits and then turn black. The skin is thicker and covered with a seborrheic film (rancid odor) on the paws, chest, flanks and around the folds of the neck, causing an unpleasant odor. Obesity is an aggravating factor.
- Treatment: a controlled diet and adequate exercise will help fight against obesity. Good skin hygiene is required to treat the seborrhea. A veterinarian should also be consulted. He will start medical treatment.
