The American Kennel Club is the most important canine federation in the USA, and the only one recognised by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale.
It was founded in 1884. Its main goals are the promotion, improvement and welfare of the dog breeds in the USA. Its most ambitious project in 2002 was undoubtedly the DOGNY operation, whose goal was to hather funds for the Search And Rescue dogs organisations in the USA. On the whole, the AKC gathered 2,3 million US dollars.
Paradox of this year, while the number of registrations in the stud book kept on decreasing, the incomes continued to increase. Indeed, the AKC developed a whole range of services (DNA testing, etc.), and products (videos, books, etc.). let’s note that a Customer care service has also been implemented. In 2002, they dealt every month with 73,000 phone calls and 8,000 emails.
