Two Malinois brother and sister coming from a German Kennel, A’Desert and Aika, won the FCI Working Dogs World Championship, which took place at Baunatal in Germany, on September 14 and 15, 2002. Family business, isn’t it, as their father had won the 2001 edition.
The Malonois were the stars of the FCI Championship; indeed, out of the 102 dogs entered, the first five positions are occupied by 5 Malinois.
The winner was A’Desert Der Sonne Entgegen (Klemm Vom Roten Falken x Apachi Vom Feuerstrurm), handled by Edgar Scherkl, with a score of 290 out of 300 (97/97/96), in front of his litter sister, Aika, which made 289 (97/94/98). An historical result for the Championship, where the elite was gathered during these two days.
This was not Aika’s first success. She had won the Deutscher Malinois Club a few months before, with a score of 292. in 2001, she had finished second at the same World Championship in Nova-Goriza, in Slovenia. She had been beaten by a dog called, Klemm Vom Rotten Falken, who’s no other than her father. This waas his second victory in a row, as he had won the 2000 Championship in France.
Aika’s brother also was a serious candidate to the title, with a serious list of achievements: in August 2002, he had won the Bundesqualifikation, which took place at Coesfeld (where Aika had finished 3rd), and had won the 7th Belgian Shepherds World Championship in Switzerland (where Aika had also finished 3rd). The previous edition of this Belgian Shepherds World Championship had been dominated by Klemm himself. Only one family rules over all the Working European and worldwide competitions.
On the third step of the podium, we could find the Dane Lone Nielsen, who handled Daneskjold Oliver (Demon de la Loreleï x Jessie du Chemin de l’Espérance), which obtained a score of 288/300. The Danish selection was made of 5 dogs, coming from the same kennel: indeed, Lobo, Hard, Oliver, Indy and Luna were all born at Finn Bertelsen’s. Fourth was the Malinois Halusetha’s Querido, handled by Fred Tichelaar, the best from the Dutch team. This dog had finished 14th at the Dutch Championship.
