Hound racing is a real "industry" in the greatest economic sense of the word in English-speaking countries (Great Britain, United States, Australia, etc.), while only slowly gaining in popularity in Continental Europe. Though, particularly on the Old Continent, all breeds of hounds are allowed to participate in these competitions, it is clearly the Greyhound that has single-handedly ensured the development of this athletic discipline because of extreme popularity with the fans.
