Know when and how to carry a dog.
If the dog is unconscious or incapable of moving himself, move him away from any distress or potential danger.
- the dog is lying on a busy road or on a public walkway;
- the dog is found in a smoke-filled room;
- the dog is menaced by a subsidence, a structural collapse, a mudslide, or a rising water level;
- the dog suffers from heat stroke, or is found in an overheated vehicle or one starting to burn.
To carry a dog by yourself:
- if the dog is conscious, tie a binding around his muzzle;
- place one hand under the abdomen and the other under the neck;
- place one hand behind the elbows and the other under the neck or behind the hind legs
To carry a dog with another person:
- when placing the dog on a blanket, one person should carry the front and the other, the rear;
- one person should carry the dog at the level of the shoulders, the other beneath the rear undercarriage.
