FCI-Standard No 216 / 22.04.1996 / GB POODLEPOINTER (Pudelpointer)

TRANSLATION
C. Seidler.

ORIGIN
Germany.

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE ORIGINAL VALID STANDARD
13.11.1959.

UTILIZATION
Polyvalent hunting and pointing dog.

CLASSIFICATION FCI
Group 7 Pointing dogs
Section 1.1 Continental pointing dogs, Type "Braque". With working trial.

GENERAL APPEARANCE
The ideal type should be the build of a heavy type of Pointer, 60 to 65 cm height at the shoulder, with not too long, harsh, wiry coat in colour brown or the colour or dried leaves.

HEAD
Moderately long, broad, covered with rough beard and profuse eyebrows. The long, broad muzzle (not fine and pointed as with the Poodle) is to be preferred. The forehead should have a steep stop. Bridge of nose should be similar to the turned up shape of a Pointer's.
LEATHERS
Medium size, flat and close fitting, not thick and fleshy; more pointed than rounded and with sufficient covering of hair.
EYES
Large, round, fiery with bird of prey expression and yellow to yellow-brown in colour.
NECK
Medium length, clean, nape of neck arched and muscular. Breeders should strive to avoid a flat neck lacking in muscle.
BODY
Withers
High, long and full.
Back
Short and straight.
Loins
Very muscular, hips broad.
Rump
Long and moderately sloping, well muscled.
Chest
Moderately broad and very deep. Ribs well sprung.
Belly
Tucked up towards rear, slim. Flanks short.
Tail
Should resemble a Pointer's tail in set-on. Carried horizontally without plume but covered with wiry hair. The tails of working dogs' puppies to be docked, in bitches to the lower rim of the vagina, in dogs, to cover the testicles.

LIMBS
FOREQUARTERS
Shoulders sloping, broad, long, firmly attached, muscles stand out clearly. Upper arm as well as forearm long, covered by taut muscles. Articulation of the elbow set far back. Sinews clearly visible. Front legs straight.

HINDQUARTERS
Correct angulation of bones; muscles taut, long, correspondingly thick. Hocks placed rather far back and high, distinctly angulated. Front and hind legs, seen from rear, are vertical in position.
FEET
Round with tight toes. Main attention has to be paid to robust pads. Hair on feet and toes should be short.
MEASUREMENT (PROPORTIONS)
Breeders should work to achieve a shoulder height of 60 to 65 cm. Dogs under 56 cm and bitches under 54 cm, when fully grown, should not be entered in the Stud Book under any circumstances. Length of trunk in proportion to height is 10 : 9.

COAT
HAIR
For ideal type, a medium length, harsh, dense, wiry coat is required. The lower part of the legs should have short hair.
COLOUR
Any white or black, too pale, as well as brindle colour is not permissible, unless confined to small markings.
FAULTS
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.

N.B.
Male animals should have two apparently normal testicles fully descended into the scrotum.
