History
The Rafeiro do Alentejo was developed from local breeds in the Alentejo region, an area in southern Portugal with a continental climate. A good herder, this breed is now used as a flock guard. The Rafeiro do Alentejo is the largest dog of its type in Portugal.
Description
This rustic, powerful, hard-working dog is courageous and dedicated. He is loyal and affectionate with his owner. The Rafeiro do Alentejo is aggressive toward strangers, as with predators. Firm training is required.
Advice
This dog is not suited to city living. He needs exercise and room to run. Weekly brushing is sufficient.
