Pinscher

Other names : Standard (German) Pinscher. Miniature Pinscher (Zwergpinscher)

Native country : Germany

History

The origin of the Pinscher is not clear. Some writers believe it is descended from a very old German breed related to the Schnauzers, which is descended from the Black and Tan Terrier. The blood of the Standard Pinscher contributed to the development of the Doberman Pinscher. The breed was recognized in 1879 and the Pinscher Klub was created in 1895. The Standard Pinscher is less common than the Miniature Pinscher. The two breeds were introduced in France in the 1950s.

Description

This spirited, courageous, playful dog is vigilant, well-balanced, and good-tempered. Very fond of family, the Pinscher is a good playmate for children provided the dog is not man-handled. The Miniature Pinscher is more high-strung and has a stronger personality than the Standard Pinscher. They need firm, consistent training.

Advice

This is a very clean breed. The Pinscher can live in the city if he receives a fair amount of exercise. Regular brushing is required.

Function

Guard dog (Standard Pinscher); excellent ratter. Pet.
