History
The Manchester Terrier is the modern version of a ratter called the Old Black and Tan Terrier, a breed that was very common in northwest England in the past. The Manchester Terrier is thought to be the result of a cross between the Old Black and Tan Terrier, the Whippet, and the West Highland White Terrier. A smaller variety, the Toy Manchester Terrier, was created around 1850. The first Manchester Terrier club was founded in 1879. The breed almost disappeared during World War II and is still quite rare outside of England.
