Unlike the Big Cats, the Small Cats have a completely rigid hyoid bone that prevents them from roaring. The Small Cats purr during inhalation and exhalation, whereas the Big Cats purr only during exhalation. All Small Cats belong to the same group, of which the Puma, similar in size to a Panther, is a member.
The puma is an extraordinary jumper. From a standing position, it can leap to a branch 6 meters off the ground. It can run very fast over short distances.
