When designing a kennel, the following questions should be asked

A well laid-out kennel will resemble a puzzle, with each section, area or room representing a piece fitting logically into the greater whole.

- Do you have to walk through the entire kennel to show a puppy to a potential buyer?- Will the prevailing winds carry germs brought in by outside visitors into the breeding area?- Where will waste be eliminated?- What daily circuits will be made by the staff: cleaning, distribution of meals, etc.?- Where will noise and odors spread?m- Has the kennel been designed in such a way that the entire kennel can be viewed from one area?- What route will the delivery man, or the veterinarian, use?

A semicircular (to circular) conception of the facility, with a central corridor, generally meets with most requirements.

These principles may seem unrealistic to breeders who only have limited premises or surface. However, they can be applied, in their general outlines, to any kind of breeding facility. The word "building" would then be replaced by "room".
