Do cats make plans or do they solely rely on external stimulus?

But it depends on what exactly call plans. They sure make us do things for their purpose, which proves they can think of the future, and foretell the result of some of their actions. Independently from man, methink they surely plan things when hunting. Well, these are only my guesses.

Isn't hunting a mouse (for example) a response to seeing the mouse in the first place. When I mean plans I mean does a cat think what it will do tomorrow?

Well, he'll probably sleep hm, I don't know if cats can think about the morrow the same way we see it, us humans. I'd say they can probably think about things maybe a few hours later. They sure have the sense of time, as we can see when they start to wait for some one or something moments before this person arrivesn or this thing happen .And they sure have routines, which could seem to show that they a sense of time too. On the other hand, it's probably rather instinctive too. Well, on the whole - this is only my humble opinion - I'd say cats mostly live in the present, with occasional feeling for a certain, expected, planned future. Then I don't think they ask themselves the same question as we do, and for that, they're lucky.
