In an Apartment

Granted, 25m2 seems to be a minimal space for an apartment cat. However, even reduced to this limited space, a cat owner can still provide the cat what it needs to savor its favorite joys -high altitude surveillance and daily stretching- by adding a few shelves, maybe a wardrobe that is not too high and a nice scratching post (sometimes an old tree trunk will do the trick better than a patented scratching post). The cleanliness of the litter box is crucial to prevent behavioral problems associated with house-training, especially in small spaces where odors can spread easily. Some owners are able to successfully train their cat to answer the call of nature on the balcony (if they have one). However, this practice requires that the cat control its desire to jump up on the edge of the balcony with all the risks involved. Depending on the specific abilities of each cat, the owner can give the cat more or less freedom, but most often he should supervise the cat.

Even the most acrobatic of cats is not entirely protected from a fall caused when he thought he could catch a bird flying or an even more nasty fall when it gets carried away chasing an infrared light... Just like with babies during bath time, caution and supervision are strongly recommended when cats are on the balcony.
