Seborrhea is a skin disease characterized by an abnormal flow of sebum by the sebaceous glands of the hair follicles and excessive squamatization. Seborrhea may be primary in cocker spaniels, spaniels, English terriers and German shepherds. There is often a hormonal imbalance (often genital in females) which is the decisive cause.
- Symptoms: skin appears greasy and scaly. Characteristic rancid odor. Moderate to no pruritis. Often becomes chronic and complications may include a bacterial or parasitic secondary infection.
- Treatment: depends on the cause. Must be specific to the cause.
