Sarcoptic mange is a parasitic dermatosis that is highly contagious to humans and characterized by intense pruritus.
- Symptoms: reddened, ponctiform skin around the limbs and lower part of the body, lower chest, groin and ears. Lesions appear first around the edges of the ears and the tip of the elbow. Intense pruritus (scratching) resulting in alopecia and spread of lesions with crusts covering ulcers.
- Treatment: isolation and anti-parasitic treatment.
- In humans: small, red papules similar to bug bites on the arms and waist. Very intense itching at night (heat from the bed).
