History
Affenpinscher, meaning “Monkey-like terrier” in german, received its name because of its small head with a monkey-like expression. It is thought that this breed is descended from the brussels griffon, or perhaps the other way around. The Affenpinscher has been around a long time; paintings prior to the seventeenth century depict similar looking dogs. Beginning in the late 1930s, the popularity of this little dog took off when he began to make a name for himself at dog shows.
