Territorial aggression is triggered by the intrusion of an external element on the territory of the pack.
The defender faces the intruder, barks, then growls with hackles raised, tail and ears erect, stops at a few meters and stares at him. If the intruder does not move, the defender starts by scratching the ground with his four legs, then urinates; if the intruder has not stepped back, the defender attacks.
In a house, the dog prevents any strnger from coming in, by manifesting the same attitudes as those previously described.
Maternal aggression is based on the same principle, except that it is triggered by a puppy (or an affective analogue: rag, toy...) and not by an individual.
Sex hormones make this type of aggression more frequent.
The control center is still unknown.
These aggressive behaviors are often encountered in bitches with genital (hence, hormonal) disorders.
