The female genitalia include:- Two gonads, the abdominal ovaries. They are involved in the development (oogenesis) and release of ova (ovulation), as well as the secretion of sexual hormones (estradiol, progesterone);- Genital passages, or oviducts, that capture the ovules and are the site of fertilization; the uterus, which receives the eggs and ensures their implantation and gestation;- A portion involved in mating, including the vagina and vulva, a passage that receives the penis during mating and provides a channel for newborns during parturition, or birth.- The ovaries are located quite far forward, near the kidneys.- The oviducts are short, narrow, and not very sinuous.- The uterus includes two long, nearly straight horns.- The vagina is long and wide.- There are four pairs of mammary glands, or teats: one pectoral pair, two abdominal pairs, and one inguinal pair.
