The digestive system consists of the group of organs used in digestion.
- Digestive Tract: The short, wide oral cavity (always pink) has a broad opening or mouth bordered by two lips: the upper lip with thick whiskers (vibrissae) and the lower lip with a free, slightly scalloped edge.
- The palate is covered by a small number of serrated, bumpy crests. The tongue lacks a median furrow and is short and wide. Large, conical, cornified papillae cover the tongue, making it a real rasp that is quite useful in grooming.
The teeth are characterized by highly developed canines, reduced incisors, and more functionally adapted molars: the front molars (premolars) are designed for cutting, and the molars are designed for grinding.
