The Sussex world will be in Netherland, the 29th of november...
Everybody knows the English Cocker Spaniel, but few people know that this popular modern dog has a lovely all-brown cousin, the Sussex Spaniel. The Sussex Spaniel is a rare breed, even in its country of origin, and in Holland there are no Sussex Spaniel breeders. Therefore this event is a very special occasion in the history of the Sussex Spaniel in Europe. Representatives with their Sussex Spaniels will be in Zandvoort and in the Amsterdam Winnershow 29 -30 November from several different countries; Finland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Great Britain, France and the Netherlands. This is the largest European gathering of Sussex Spaniels that has ever taken place. An entry number of 27 in the Amsterdam Winnershow is a record for Sussex Spaniels on the Continent. In addition, there will be a high number of Sussex friends with their dogs in Zandvoort on Saturday 29 November and in the Show area 30 November as spectators and taking part in the special Sussex Spaniel parade in the main ring of the show as well as informing show visitors at the Discover Dogs Stand.
In the country of origin, the Great Britain, the Sussex Spaniels have been identified as a Vulnerable British Breed. In 2007 there were only 60 Sussex Spaniel puppies registered in the UK. Less than 10 puppies are registered in all other European countries. Miraculous, considering the fact that at the end of the 2^nd World War, there were only about 6 or 7 Sussex Spaniels left.
One of the special features of this breed is its dual-purpose ability, for both Showing and Working i.e. hunting. Furthermore everybody knows that the Sussex make the most wonderful and charismatic companions. Once you have fallen in love with a Sussex, one is not enough - you have to have another one.
