Another increase of entries for this show. With 3486 last year to 3694 this year the September show of Luxemburg is still far from the Spring edition that had no less then 4778 entries.
Exhibitors from no less then 21 countries were present. France has the highest score with 1106 dogs, followed by Germany with 779 and Belgium with 729. The Netherlands were present with 470 dogs. Russia had delegated 32 dogs and the UK had 18.
There is no need to describe again the nice main ring with the beautiful podium for the winners. The cups for the winners were very nice, not the regular metal ones but this time in porcelain. I think they must be very appreciated, especially the ones for the 3 Best In Show dogs. They were very nice and of an impressive size. (see photos). It seems like there were also more trade stands compared to last year and some of them that use only to come in spring were present now too. That means that it becomes hard for them too to ignore this edition.
The jury was composed of 31 judges from 13 different countries. Most of them had very high scores and judged on both days. Special guests were Mr.Mario Knoll and Mrs. Ana Beatriz Knoll from Bresil. Mrs.Ana Beatriz was the BIS show judge. She had the choice out of 10 group winners to do this. From Group 1 we had a female Briard “Uky-Morine des Teres Grasses” owned by Solange Couturier from France. She won Open Class under Mr.Kuffer from Luxemburg and was chosen Best of Group by Mr.Deschuymere from Belgium.
Group 2 was a nice Bulldog “Edison van het Slaghek” owned by Mr.Van Driel from the Netherlands. He is a little over one year old and was entered in Junior Class under Mr.Zvi Kupferberg from Israel. It was him too who made him win his group. He later ended Res.BIS, a spectacular start in his career!
Group 3 was won by the West Highland White Terrier bitch “The Dashing Devil’s Snapshot. Snaphot is owned and handled by van de Veen Karin & Shirley and is from the Netherlands too. This bitch is a almost two years old and was judged by Mr.Jesus Pastor from Spain and won the group under the very same judge. This bitch ended 3rd BIS. Group 4 was judged by Mrs Nathalie Pattrix from France who chose the wire miniature Dachshund Fuinrando Riki de Arlejo as group winner. This dog is from Portugal and handled and owned by Ivone Paim. He was entered in Champion Class as a little over two years old under Mrs Yolanda Nagler-Magal from Israel. Mr.Atilla Soos from Hungary was the group 5 judge. The Alaskan Malamute “Kids of the Snow Storm Royal Blade” from Nagy Kris & Krisztina, also from Hungray, is over 4 years of age and has lines from the famous Italian Kennel Del Biagio and was judged earlier by the very same judge.
Group 6 was judged by Mr.Palmiro Cottafavi from Luxemburg who judged his last show before retiring. We will miss his famous smile, gentlemen behaviour and keen experience. He was impressed by the Beagle bitch “Danish Blue from Muskoka Dream’s”, a Dutch dog owned by Mr.Perfors. This two year old girl was entered in open class under Mr.Ger Cox from Ireland. Mr.Paul Jentgen from Luxemburg was group 7 judge and fell in love with the Weimaraner bitch “Soul Coast N Grey Classics Foreign Affair “ owned by Edwin Lenaerts from Belgium. She was entered in Champions Class under Mr.Yochai Barak from Israel and is 2,5 years old. Group 8 was reserved for Mrs.Delvaux from Belgium who chose the Golden Retriever “Inassicas Coriander” of Mr.Knippenborg from Holland as her group winner. Coriander is almost 5 years and was entered in Champion Class under Mrs. Orietta Zilli from Italy. Probably the youngest judge present was Mr.Dusan Paunovic from Serbia Montenegro. His winner was the Maltese “Cinecittà East of Eden” of Prosperi Franco from Italy. This nice 2 year old dog was unfortunately not competing for BIS on Sunday as his master was not able to stay. He was entered in Champion Class under the Irish judge Mr. John Muldoon.
Mrs.Bitte Ahrens from Sweden sends the Azawakh bitch “Shani Kel Dahoussahaq” from Italy to the main ring to compete for Best of Group. This dog was bred by Mr.Monika Kessler and is owned by Francesca Zampini from Italy. The dog was not yet two years old and already a champion. The very same judge chose him later as the group winner. She must have been very happy and proud to see him later win Best In Show under Mrs.Knoll. She must have been very impressed by his behaviour and nice temperament as Azawakhs are known to be very aloof , reserved to strangers and shy, but Shani proved the opposite and stood as a statue on the podium amidst all the judges without sign of discomfort. Impressive! Another Italian victory in Luxemburg and I wonder if this will be repeated next edition on 31 March and 1 April 2007.
