UTILIZATION
Hound.

FCI'S CLASSIFICATION
Group 6 Scent hounds and related breeds
Section 1.2. Medium sized hounds
With working trial.

GENERAL APPEARANCE
A middle-sized dog, well-boned and muscular, giving a great impression of vigour and rusticity rather than of distinction.

HEAD
Skull rather long, occipital crest well defined. Seen from front, the skull has the aspect of a flattened arch (without excess), diminishing in width to the level of the superciliary ridges which are not very much accentuated.

MUZZLE
Rather long, straight or slightly arched with a slight Roman nose. Stop only moderately marked. Lips not too heavy; rather more pointed than square.

EYES
Dark, brown, not showing any haw, alert expression.

NOSE
Black or dark reddish-brown. Nostrils well open.

EARS
Set on finely on a level with the eye, hardly reaching the nose, ending in a point and covered with shorter and softer hair than the rest of the body.

NECK
Fairly short and muscular.

CHEST
Deep and wide.

RIBS
Fairly rounded.

BACK
Short and wide.

LOIN
Wide, well supporting and muscled.

BELLY
Hardly tucked up.

Sloping.

FORELEGS
Vertical and parallel.

HINDLEGS
Vertical, hocks slightly bent.

THIGHS
Well muscled.

FEET
Compact, tight toes.

TAIL
Medium length, slightly sickle-shaped, thick at the root, often with coarse hair underneath and well tapering to the tip.

COAT
Very harsh, dry to the touch,, quite short, never woolly nor frizzy, face not tousled.

COLOUR
Fawn. The best colours are the golden wheaten and the rich red brown. Sometimes a small white spot on the chest (not to be encouraged).

SIZE
From 48 to 56 cm for males and females.
Tolerance of 2 cm more or less for top quality dogs.

FAULTS
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered as a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree.
General appearance
Thin and slender.
Superciliary ridges
Too much accentuated.
Muzzle
Snipey, short, with pendulous lips.
Ears
Set on low, too short or too long, or flat covered with frizzy hair.
Belly
Distinctly tucked up.
