The Toy Manchester Terrier was bred from small Manchester Terriers, creating a diminutive version of the original. The breed was decreased in size even more in the nineteenth century, when it was fashionable for women to tuck toy dogs in their sleeves. Beginning in the twentieth century, breeders returned to the more robust, stronger, miniature.
