History
There is no denying that the Cane Corso is a direct descendant of the molossians used at the time of the Roman legions. The Cane Corso is the result of a selection of dogs particularly adapted to the protection of men. Hence his name, which could come from “Cohors”, meaning protector, or from the Roman cohorts. But one thing is sure, this dog did not originate in Corsica. 1979, the ENCI - the Italian canine Society – recognised the breed.
Description
Its education should be firm, but it will not be difficult. The Cane is not a hasty dog, it likes thinking about what it’s doing, and cannot be turned into an obeying machine. Males are more dominant than females, their temperament is slightly tougher than the females.
Advice
The breed may occasionally suffer from hip dysplasia. Be careful about the way you feed them, to avoid the stomach torsion/dilation problems. But there is no known disease specific to the breed. It’s just easy to live with this dog. Its short hairs do not require much care. Brushing it will be more of a game than a real need. Bathing is not necessary.
Function
Guard dog, defence and police, tracking. Also an excellent pet.
