Japanese are crazy about it, and the website of the manufacturer is full of pictures and positive testimonials on those coloured prostheses, presented as a “humane” solution opposed to declawing.
Invented by the American company Soft Paws, those little vinyl claws – the equivalent of nail caps for humans – are destined to prevent cats from scratching your furniture, in the USA. In Japan, it’s simply because “it’s so cute!!!”
These fake claws come in various colours, violet, pink, blue, red, or simply clear. There are four sizes, and they last for about four weeks. The large package includes 40 nails and costs about 15 Euros, with the glue about 30 Euros. Is this a serious alternative to the damages caused by claws, or simply a pretty annoying prosthesis, which the cats will try to remove all day long?
