Famous Siamese breeder Sandra Soper is also well known as an artist, sculpting some great feline figures.
Sandra Soper is from Britain. In 1986, after 15 years of breeding and getting to know Siamese cats from every angle, she started to sculpt them. A self-learner, Sandra had a passion for breed-selecting and exhibitions, which led her to another form of creation: sculpting is the perfect way for her to express her lust for freedom and fantasy, mixed with a pronounced liking of unique cats, and a splash of tenderness. Orientals are not left out from Sandra’s artistic production: she also does silver tabbies; a sure hit with their cuddly fauve looks, which make everyone want to stroke them. Was it not Léonor Fini, the great contemporary painter, who said: “God created the cat so that Man can stroke a panther”? Rex Devon’s are also well represented in Sandra’s work, and her porcelains are so close to perfection that they could be used as a reference for the standard of the breed.
Sandra Soper also loves horses, both racehorses and workhorses. For her studies, she prefers to use bronze – possibly a means of getting closer to the great tradition of the Italian and English masters. Coming up soon is the 7th European Cat Show, at Bercy (Paris, France) on October 21st and 22nd, and Sandra Soper will be there: so, if you’re planning a trip to Europe, make it Paris! It’s well worth it, just to see her beautiful work. And if you would like to buy something to take back and put on the mantelpiece, that’s quite possible too. Expect to pay around 300 FRF (approx. £30 or US $40) for a bronze – not much considering you get to take a piece of dream back home with you.
