The kitten is a frail creature. At birth, it is blind and deaf; and since its body has very little fat, it has no energy reserves. Moreover, the kitten is unable to regulate its body temperature and so is closely dependent on its mother, the nest and the milk diet. Kittens suckle milk from their mother until they are 6 to 7 weeks old, but from 4 to 5 weeks, it is able to chew solid food, thus preparing it for weaning.
